Welcome to Sampo Silver Studio!
Sampo is a small silver and goldsmithing studio based in Hallowell, Maine and founded in the winter of 2020. Sampo is dedicated to designing contemporary art jewelry as well as silver hollowware and flatware. My work is inspired by classic metalworking techniques and by my love for creating sculptural forms from precious metal, often enhanced with gemstones or pearls. The majority of my work is focused around a special metalforming practice called anticlastic raising, a technique whereby the edges of a flat piece of sheet metal are stretched, the centers are compressed, and a saddle-like shape called a “hyperbolic paraboloid” is created. These shapes lend themselves to elegant sculptural forms that can be endlessly manipulated to inspire novel designs to be adorned and cherished.
About purchasing work
As Sampo continues to grow I am presented with increasing opportunities to refine and finalize many of my lines of work, many of these products are listed in my shop and are available for purchase anytime. Some lines such as the Oyster Pearl Cups have several different customizable variations in metal color, finish (polish, matte, patina), size, pearl color/size, earring style, and others. For the time being, what is listed is a combination of these qualities that I have come to prefer. That being said, please feel free to reach out with any and all preferences that you might have. I am always happy to customize and accommodate, almost always at no extra cost.
All pieces can be made in gold or bimetal by request. Gold is delightful and I welcome the opportunity to use it.

Commissions, Custom Work, and Repairs
I regularly take commissions for custom work such as bridal jewelry or heirloom silverware. Please be sure to clarify any timing or pricing concerns you might have when you reach out. Repair work is welcome though I am more selective about what repairs I take on, depending on the value of items at hand, risk associated with some repairs, and the cost of the jewelry work compared to the cost of the jewelry item.
